False alarm prompts discovery of 1,000 marijuana plants

MONTREAL - Four people have been arrested after firefighters responding to a false alarm early Tuesday morning stumbled across a marijuana grow-op in southwest Montreal.

The firefighters arrived at an industrial building at 1844 William St. shortly after 2 a.m., but instead of flames and smoke, they discovered over 1,000 marijuana plants and four people inside.

Two men and two women, ranging in age from 47 to 51, were detained by fire officials until police arrived.

According to Montreal police Constable Annie Lemieux, drug squad investigators will question the four suspects on Tuesday afternoon.

Four people are under arrest after firefighters discovered a marijuana growing operation in Griffintown.

Firefighters went to an industrial building at 1844 William street Tuesday morning because the smoke alarms were going off.

They rushed inside the run-down building only to discover roughly 1,000 marijuana plants.

They also found two men and two women, aged 47, 48, 49 and 51, whom they detained while they notified police.

The four gardeners were arrested and taken into policy custody.

No word yet on what charges they will face, if any.

Advenant qu'une situation semblable à celle-ci m'arrive en tant que Paramédic, je ne ferais pas d'arrestation et je ne retiendrais pas une personne comme ça. Ce n'est pas dans mes tâches, et je pense à mes collègues qui auront à intervenir chez des personnes comme ça, je ne veux pas qu'ils s'attirent des problèmes.
